Greene County was composed of many old schools, which included: St. Johns Parochial School, Eldred Stone Jug School, Old Lincoln Stone School, and the Eldred School.

The Eldred Stone Jug School doubled as a store depot and was established in 1837 or 1838. The first teacher was Cyrus Sargent. The building had only one door and no windows; the only light source was a cupola. It burned down in the 1900s.

The Old Lincoln Stone School was established in 1877. Its most well-known teacher was Jacob Ambrose who taught fifty students. After the school closed it became a garage until 1927 a tornado came all that's left is the bottom stone.
